The client approached ADF with a request to provide engineering services required to replace an aging rotary steam tube dryer. Due to heat, size and continuous operation the rotary steam tube dryer proved difficult to safely work near for field data collection. ADF utilized laser scanning technology to safely obtain the data required to generate a 3D model of the existing area. The end result was the ability to accurately align and integrate the replacement dryer into the existing dryer area model. This model served several purposes including clearly defining the contractor approach, shortened project schedule and identified safety risk that would be encountered during construction.
3D models, layouts, construction document package and schedule were prepared for an equipment replacement.
A plan for the overall project was developed including:
- Complete 3-D modeling of the project area with integration of the new equipment model
- Construction package that included: structural, mechanical, electrical and demolition plans
- Project schedule with critical milestone completion dates
- All process associated tie in locations and utility routing plans
